Family

Jones's widow, Sara, was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for charity work (she is involved with a number of charities related to the armed forces) and since 2003 has been a Deputy Lieutenant of Wiltshire. Both of their sons, Brigadier Rupert Jones MBE and David Jones served as infantry officers in the Devon and Dorsets (now merged into The Rifles). Rupert was appointed MBE in the 2001 Queen's Birthday Honours.

Famous quotes containing the word family:

The family: I believe more unhappiness comes from this source than from any other—I mean the attempt to prolong family connection unduly, and to make people hang together artificially who would never naturally do so.
    Samuel Butler (1835–1902)

Realizing that his time was nearly spent, he gave full oral instructions about his burial and the manner in which he wished to be remembered.... A few minutes later, feeling very tired, he left the room, remarking, ‘I have no disposition to leave this precious circle. I love to be here surrounded by my family and friends.’ Then he gave them his blessing and said, ‘I am ready to go and I wish you goodnight.’
—For the State of New Hampshire, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

I acknowledge that the balance I have achieved between work and family roles comes at a cost, and every day I must weigh whether I live with that cost happily or guiltily, or whether some other lifestyle entails trade-offs I might accept more readily. It is always my choice: to change what I cannot tolerate, or tolerate what I cannot—or will not—change.
    Melinda M. Marshall (20th century)
