H. H. Holmes - in Popular Culture

In Popular Culture

  • "No Exit" - sixth episode of the second season of Supernatural, in which the spirit of H. H. Holmes is the "monster of the week". A brief summary of Holmes' real crimes is discussed by the protagonists when they discover that the building his spirit is haunting was built over the execution yard where Holmes was hanged. The fact that Holmes' body was encased in concrete upon burial is also discussed, and provides inspiration for the protagonists as to how to prevent the spirit from engaging in any further attacks upon the living. Holmes' spirit is portrayed in the episode by Stephen Aberle.

Famous quotes containing the words popular and/or culture:

We live under continual threat of two equally fearful, but seemingly opposed, destinies: unremitting banality and inconceivable terror. It is fantasy, served out in large rations by the popular arts, which allows most people to cope with these twin specters.
    Susan Sontag (b. 1933)

I am writing to resist the view that Europe and civilization are going to Hell. If I am being “crucified for an idea”Mthat is, the coherent idea around which my muddles accumulated—it is probably the idea that European culture ought to survive, that the best qualities of it ought to survive along with whatever cultures, in whatever universality. Against the propaganda of terror and the propaganda of luxury, have you a nice simple answer?
    Ezra Pound (1885–1972)
