Guy Philippe - Career

Career

Philippe is accused by Human Rights Watch of being a death squad leader during the reign of Baby Doc Duvalier before receiving training from the U.S. Special Forces in Ecuador in an American bid to reinstate President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in the 1990s.

Human Rights Watch reported Friday, February 27, 2004, that during Philippe's term as police chief of the Port-au-Prince suburb of Delmas from 1997 to 1999, international monitors "learned that dozens of suspected gang members were summarily executed, mainly by police under the command of Inspector Berthony Bazile, Philippe's deputy."

Famous quotes containing the word career:

A black boxer’s career is the perfect metaphor for the career of a black male. Every day is like being in the gym, sparring with impersonal opponents as one faces the rudeness and hostility that a black male must confront in the United States, where he is the object of both fear and fascination.
    Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)

The 19-year-old Diana ... decided to make her career that of wife. Today that can be a very, very iffy line of work.... And what sometimes happens to the women who pursue it is the best argument imaginable for teaching girls that they should always be able to take care of themselves.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)

I’ve been in the twilight of my career longer than most people have had their career.
    Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)
