Gurram Jashuva - Early Life

Early Life

Jashuva was born into a poor yaadava caste family in Vinukonda, Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, India to Virayya and Lingamma. His father was Yadav and his mother Madiga (an intercaste marriage). Due to poverty and their caste, his childhood was difficult in a society which considered his caste untouchable. His parents raised him as a Christian, yet Jashuva often drew inspiration from Hinduism and Hindu mythological epics. This angered his Christian society, which was quick to proscribe Jashuva's family from their community. This did not deter Jashuva who continued to write poetry in Telugu.

He graduated with Ubhaya Bhasha Praveena (as a scholar of Telugu and Sanskrit languages).

    There is a relationship between cartooning and people like MirĂ³ and Picasso which may not be understood by the cartoonist, but it definitely is related even in the early Disney.
    Roy Lichtenstein (b. 1923)

    Had I but died an hour before this chance
    I had lived a blessed time; for from this instant
    There’s nothing serious in mortality.
    All is but toys. Renown and grace is dead;
    The wine of life is drawn, and the mere lees
    Is left this vault to brag of.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
