Gun Politics in Switzerland - Recreational Shooting

Recreational Shooting

Recreational shooting is widespread in Switzerland. Practice with guns is a popular form of recreation, and is encouraged by the government, particularly for the members of the militia. Swiss firearms-related rights are supported by the organization ProTell.

200,000 people attend the annual Feldschiessen weekend, which is the largest rifle shooting competition in the world.

In addition, there are several private shooting ranges which rent guns. It is possible to go shooting with minimal supervision and without an ID-check.

Famous quotes containing the word shooting:

... though it is by no means requisite that the American women should emulate the men in the pursuit of the whale, the felling of the forest, or the shooting of wild turkeys, they might, with advantage, be taught in early youth to excel in the race, to hit a mark, to swim, and in short to use every exercise which could impart vigor to their frames and independence to their minds.
    Frances Wright (1795–1852)
