Gresham's School - Out of School Activities

Out of School Activities

There is a School Orchestra, a School Choir, a Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme (more than five hundred Gold Awards have been achieved since its inception in 1972), and a large number of school clubs, such as the Debating Society, the Natural History Society, the Sailing Club, the Kayak Club and the Chess Club.

North Norfolk Divers, a branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club, is based at the school.

A school play is produced at the end of every Summer Term, and each house also produces a play once a year. There are also many visits to concerts, plays and other outside events.

In 1922, W. H. Auden played the Shrew in The Taming of the Shrew and in 1925 he played Caliban in The Tempest.

Famous quotes containing the words out of, school and/or activities:

The Israelites groaned under their slavery, and cried out. Out of the slavery their cry for help rose up to God.
    Bible: Hebrew, Exodus 2:23.

The most powerful lessons about ethics and morality do not come from school discussions or classes in character building. They come from family life where people treat one another with respect, consideration, and love.
    Neil Kurshan (20th century)

Both at-home and working mothers can overmeet their mothering responsibilities. In order to justify their jobs, working mothers can overnurture, overconnect with, and overschedule their children into activities and classes. Similarly, some at-home mothers,... can make at- home mothering into a bigger deal than it is, over stimulating, overeducating, and overwhelming their children with purposeful attention.
    Jean Marzollo (20th century)
