The Greene County Almshouse is located northeast of the Greene County, Illinois city of Carrollton, along a township road. The Almshouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, one of four sites in and around Carrollton to enjoy that status. The other three are the Carrollton Courthouse Square Historic District, the Henry T. Rainey Farm and the Hodges House. Greene County Almshouse has been listed on the National Register since 1991.
Famous quotes containing the words greene and/or county:
“Innocence always calls mutely for protection when we would be so much wiser to guard ourselves against it: innocence is like a dumb leper who has lost his bell, wandering the world, meaning no harm.”
—Graham Greene (19041991)
“I could draw Bloom County with my nose and pay my cleaning lady to write it, and Id bet I wouldnt lose 10% of my papers over the next twenty years. Such is the nature of comic-strips. Once established, their half-life is usually more than nuclear waste.”
—Berkeley Breathed (b. 1957)
