“In his green den the murmuring seal
Close by his sleek companion lies;
While singly we to bedward steal,
And close in fruitless sleep our eyes.”
—George Darley (17951846)
“Good government cannot be found on the bargain-counter. We have seen samples of bargain-counter government in the past when low tax rates were secured by increasing the bonded debt for current expenses or refusing to keep our institutions up to the standard in repairs, extensions, equipment, and accommodations. I refuse, and the Republican Party refuses, to endorse that method of sham and shoddy economy.”
—Calvin Coolidge (18721933)
“While the South is hardly Christ-centered, it is most certainly Christ-haunted.”
—Flannery OConnor (19251964)

Theres a certain sort of logic leading towards these immaculate suburbs. And theyre terrifying, because they are the death of the soul.... This is the prison this planet is being turned into.”
—J.G. (James Graham)
