Great Northern Union

The Great Northern Union is a men's chorus based in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. They perform 4-part harmony, particularly in the barbershop style. Officially, they are the Hilltop, Minnesota chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, and are very active in competition. Following the 2011 Barbershop Harmony Society International Chorus Competition the GNU took home the silver medal, taking second to the Masters of Harmony by a margin of only .2%.

Famous quotes containing the words northern and/or union:

The northern sky rose high and black
    Over the proud unfruitful sea,
East and west the ships came back
    Happily or unhappily....
    Philip Larkin (1922–1986)

These semi-traitors [Union generals who were not hostile to slavery] must be watched.—Let us be careful who become army leaders in the reorganized army at the end of this Rebellion. The man who thinks that the perpetuity of slavery is essential to the existence of the Union, is unfit to be trusted. The deadliest enemy the Union has is slavery—in fact, its only enemy.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)
