Saint Mary's Church
The church of St Mary the Virgin dates back to the 11th century, and was built by the Normans. The tower was added some 200 years later, and has recently undergone a £100,000 restoration project. The church itself is constructed from stone and flint, and still has its original door (the oldest surviving church door in the country), although it is no longer in use.

Famous quotes containing the words saint and/or church:
“O my God, what must a soul be like when it is in this state! It longs to be all one tongue with which to praise the Lord. It utters a thousand pious follies, in a continuous endeavor to please Him who thus possesses it.”
—Teresa Of Avila, Saint (15151582)
“The hippopotamuss day
Is passed in sleep; at night he hunts;
God works in a mysterious way
The Church can sleep and feed at once.”
—T.S. (Thomas Stearns)
