The Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria

The Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, formerly the Federated Coast Miwok, takes its name from the Graton Rancheria. The federally recognized tribe of Coast Miwok and Southern Pomo Indians re-established its status in 2000.

FIGR Chairman Greg Sarris testified before the House Resource Committee that "15.45 acres were purchased in Graton for our members. Seventy-five members moved on in 1920."

On April 18, 2008, the tribe was able to acquire 254 acres (1.03 km2) of land.

Famous quotes containing the words federated and/or indians:

The Federated Republic of Europe—the United States of Europe—that is what must be. National autonomy no longer suffices. Economic evolution demands the abolition of national frontiers. If Europe is to remain split into national groups, then Imperialism will recommence its work. Only a Federated Republic of Europe can give peace to the world.
    Leon Trotsky (1879–1940)

The Indians of this neighborhood are about as familiar with the moose as we are with the ox, having associated with them for so many generations.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
