Financial Dealings

In May 2008, while Shapps was shadow housing minister, campaign donations by companies related to his frontbench portfolio (two online mortgage brokers, an estate agent, a commercial property developer and a firm of solicitors specialising in conveyancing and remortgaging) were publicized, with critics suggesting that the donations might be influencing Conservative policies.

In the MPs expenses scandal of 2009 Shapps was categorised by The Daily Telegraph as an "expenses saint".

Famous quotes containing the words financial and/or dealings:

One of the reforms to be carried out during the incoming administration is a change in our monetary and banking laws, so as to secure greater elasticity in the forms of currency available for trade and to prevent the limitations of law from operating to increase the embarrassment of a financial panic.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

To have the fear of God before our eyes, and, in our mutual dealings with each other, to govern our actions by the eternal measures of right and wrong:MThe first of these will comprehend the duties of religion;Mthe second, those of morality, which are so inseparably connected together, that you cannot divide these two tables ... without breaking and mutually destroying them both.
    Laurence Sterne (1713–1768)
