Gransden Lodge Airfield - RAF Gransden Lodge

RAF Gransden Lodge

Gransden Lodge opened in April 1942 as an operational bomber airfield with three concrete runways. At the end of 1945 the airfield was transferred to Transport Command but the last operational squadron was disbanded in February 1946. The RAF station closed in 1955 and it was also used for some motor races (see Gransden Lodge circuit for further details).

Famous quotes containing the word lodge:

    As yields no mercy to desert,
    Nor grace to those that crave it.
    Sweet sun, when thou lookest on,
    Pray her regard my moan;
    Sweet birds, when you sing to her,
    To yield some pity, woo her;
    —Thomas Lodge (1558?–1625)
