Titrating Strong Base With Strong Acid
Mirror-image plots are obtained if titrating the base with the acid, and the signs of the slopes are reversed.
Hence,
- a plot of will have a linear region before equivalence with slope
- and a plot of will have a linear region after equivalence with slope
- both plots will have as x-intercept
Figure 1 gives sample Gran plots of a strong base-strong acid titration.

Famous quotes containing the words strong and/or base:
“Under a spreading chestnut-tree
The village smithy stands;
The smith, a mighty man is he,
With large and sinewy hands;
And the muscles of his brawny arms
Are strong as iron bands.”
—Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (18091882)
“When a man speaks the truth in the spirit of truth, his eye is as clear as the heavens. When he has base ends, and speaks falsely, the eye is muddy and sometimes asquint.”
