Famous quotes containing the word powers:

Great Powers of falling wave and wind and windy fire,
    With your harmonious choir
Encircle her I love and sing her into peace,
That my old care may cease....
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

I have come slowly into possession of such powers as I have ... I receive the opinions of my day. I do not conceive them. But I receive them into a vivid mind.
    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)

A man is the prisoner of his power. A topical memory makes him an almanac; a talent for debate, disputant; skill to get money makes him a miser, that is, a beggar. Culture reduces these inflammations by invoking the aid of other powers against the dominant talent, and by appealing to the rank of powers. It watches success.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
