Government Involvement in The Terri Schiavo Case

Government Involvement In The Terri Schiavo Case

The legislative, executive, and judicial branches, of both the United States federal government and the State of Florida, were involved in the case of Terri Schiavo. In November 1998 Michael Schiavo, husband of Terri Schiavo, first sought permission to remove his wife's feeding tube. Schiavo had suffered brain damage in February 1990, and in February 2000 had been ruled by a Florida circuit court to be in a persistent vegetative state. Her feeding tube was removed first on April 26, 2001, but was reinserted two days later on an appeal by her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler.

Famous quotes containing the words government, involvement and/or case:

Democracy is not so much a form of government as a set of principles.
    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)

It may be tempting to focus on the fact that, even among those who support equality, men’s involvement as fathers remains a far distance from what most women want and most children need. Yet it is also important to acknowledge how far and how fast many men have moved towards a pattern that not long ago virtually all men considered anathema.
    Katherine Gerson (20th century)

It is almost everywhere the case that soon after it is begotten the greater part of human wisdom is laid to rest in repositories.
    —G.C. (Georg Christoph)
