Good Beer Guide - History

History

The guide was first published in 1972, and was just 18 pages long. Rather than a professional published volume, it was a collection of sheets of paper stapled together and posted out to CAMRA members.

The first printed edition was published in 1974, and contained the comment on Watneys brewery: "Avoid like the plague", which generated a lot of media attention and caused the publisher, Waddington, to recall the first print run and revise the description to "Avoid at all costs".

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)

The history of his present majesty, is a history of unremitting injuries and usurpations ... all of which have in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world, for the truth of which we pledge a faith yet unsullied by falsehood.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

All history is a record of the power of minorities, and of minorities of one.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
