Golders Green Estate

The Golders Green Estate is an area in the district of London Borough of Barnet between Cricklewood and Brent Cross, adjacent to Clitterhouse. It is in the London NW2 postcode area and is bounded (and includes) by Cotswold Gardens and Cheviot Gardens.

While deriving its name Golders Green from the suburb of the same name, it is not adjacent to Golders Green. It was built by the Laing company after the Handley Page factory and aerodrome (Cricklewood Aerodrome) closed in 1929. The aerodrome had become unviable as it became surrounded by suburban development.

The area was the childhood home of Jean Simmons, the actress.

Famous quotes containing the words green and/or estate:

Just across the Green from the post office is the county jail, seldom occupied except by some backwoodsman who has been intemperate; the courthouse is under the same roof. The dog warden usually basks in the sunlight near the harness store or the post office, his golden badge polished bright.
—Administration for the State of Con, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

Not a flock of wild geese cackles over our town, but it to some extent unsettles the value of real estate here, and, if I were a broker, I should probably take that disturbance into account.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
