Golden Nugget Laughlin - History

History

The Golden Nugget Laughlin was known as the Nevada Club before it was acquired by Golden Nugget Companies. A brief history of the property:

1986—had a major renovation

1989—became a Mirage Resorts property

2004—sold to Poster Financial Group, Inc.

May 31, 2005—a disagreement between Poster Financial and Barrick Gaming caused the purchase agreement of the Golden Nugget Laughlin to be terminated and as a result Landry's Restaurants, which was buying the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas was given control of the Laughlin property in exchange for taking on the property's debt. The sale to Landry's closed on September 27, 2005. Poster Financial filed a lawsuit against Barrick for breach of contract and Barrick countersued, claiming that Poster purposely made financial irregularities in its financial statements.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

    You that would judge me do not judge alone
    This book or that, come to this hallowed place
    Where my friends’ portraits hang and look thereon;
    Ireland’s history in their lineaments trace;
    Think where man’s glory most begins and ends
    And say my glory was I had such friends.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

    Postmodernism is, almost by definition, a transitional cusp of social, cultural, economic and ideological history when modernism’s high-minded principles and preoccupations have ceased to function, but before they have been replaced with a totally new system of values. It represents a moment of suspension before the batteries are recharged for the new millennium, an acknowledgment that preceding the future is a strange and hybrid interregnum that might be called the last gasp of the past.
    Gilbert Adair, British author, critic. Sunday Times: Books (London, April 21, 1991)

    All history is a record of the power of minorities, and of minorities of one.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
