Famous quotes containing the words young, adult and/or novels:
“Here may I not ask you to carry those inscriptions that now hang on the walls into your homes, into the schools of your city, into all of your great institutions where children are gathered, and teach them that the eye of the young and the old should look upon that flag as one of the familiar glories of every American?”
—Benjamin Harrison (18331901)
“The writer, unlike his non-writing adult friend, has no predisposed outlook; he seldom observes deliberately. He sees what he did not intend to see; he remembers what does not seem wholly possible. Inattentive learner in the schoolroom of life, he keeps some faculty free to veer and wander. His is the roving eye.”
—Elizabeth Bowen (18991973)
“I have just opened Bacons Advancement of Learning for the first time, which I read with great delight. It is more like what Scotts novels were than anything.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
