Glasgow University Union - Strategic Plan 2011-14

Strategic Plan 2011-14

In 2010 GUU produced a strategic plan, outlining ten key aims for the development of the union. "The motto of 'Proud Heritage, Bright Future" aptly sums up the past achievements, its capacity for growth and exciting new ventures", writes Prof. Graham Caie, Clerk of Senate in the foreword.

The aims are as follows:

1. To increase membership from one fourth to one third of the university's student population 2. To hold a high profile, monthly guest lecture on a range of academic and current affairs issues 3. To increase standing amongst University of Glasgow students as a performance venue in West End 4. To re-establish catering operation as a credible, affordable service for staff and students 5. To increase attendance at debates by 25% 6. To increase number of contributors to the GUUi by 50% 7. To continue being leading provider for international students on campus 8. To have 60% of University of Glasgow clubs and societies affiliated with GUU 9. To be ranked among top ten debating institutions in the world 10. To be instrumental in recruiting students to the university through schools debates programme

The plan also contains a variety of testimonials. BBC presenter Andrew Neil writes: "Being an active part of the GUU "community" was a vital part of becoming an adult—making new friends from a variety of backgrounds, having new experiences, dealing with new challenges. It was my time at the union, almost as much as my education, which prepared my for post-university life."

The practice of S/M is the creation of pleasure.... And that’s why S/M is really a subculture. It’s a process of invention. S/M is the use of a strategic relationship as a source of pleasure.

If you should ever acknowledge my existence, I plan to snub you.
