Gilroy Unified School District is located in the southernmost tip of Santa Clara Valley, California.
The Gilroy Unified School District was created in 1966 when several small school districts joined together with the Gilroy School District. The other school districts included San Ysidro and Rucker. The school district currently consists of three high schools (Gilroy High, Mt. Madonna High, and the newest addition, Christopher High), eight elementary schools, (Antonio Del Buono, El Roble, Eliot, Glen View, Las Animas, Luigi Aprea, Rod Kelley and Rucker), three middle schools (Brownell, Solorsono, and South Valley) and one early college academy (GECA). One charter school, Gilroy Prep School, has been chartered by the School Board and opened in 2011 serving students grades K - 3. Their goal is to expand to serve grades K - 8.
Famous quotes containing the words unified, school and/or district:
“Under weak government, in a wide, thinly populated country, in the struggle against the raw natural environment and with the free play of economic forces, unified social groups become the transmitters of culture.”
—Johan Huizinga (18721945)
“For those parents from lower-class and minority communities ... [who] have had minimal experience in negotiating dominant, external institutions or have had negative and hostile contact with social service agencies, their initial approaches to the school are often overwhelming and difficult. Not only does the school feel like an alien environment with incomprehensible norms and structures, but the families often do not feel entitled to make demands or force disagreements.”
—Sara Lawrence Lightfoot (20th century)
“Most works of art, like most wines, ought to be consumed in the district of their fabrication.”
—Rebecca West (18921983)
