Gerber Format - Introduction

Introduction

Inside many electronic devices is a PCB onto which components are connected. These PCBs may be designed using a computer-aided design (CAD) system. One way to physically realize a design is to transfer the computerized design information to a photolithographic computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) system. Gerber is a widely used file format for performing this transfer. Once the bare board is fabricated the Gerber file plays no role in the final assembly of components onto the board.
