Georgia Military Institute

The Georgia Military Institute (GMI) was established on 110 acres (0.45 km2) in Marietta, Georgia, on July 1, 1851. It burned during the Civil War and was never rebuilt. The current GMI is a reactivation of the name for a Georgia National Guard Officer Candidate School (OCS) curriculum.

Famous quotes containing the words georgia, military and/or institute:

Georgia, Georgia, no peace I find, just an old sweet song keeps Georgia on my mind.
    Stuart Gorrell (d. 1963)

The transformation of the impossible into reality is always the mark of a demonic will. The only way to recognize a military genius is by the fact that, during the war, he will mock the rules of warfare and will employ creative improvisation instead of tested methods and he will do so at the right moment.
    Stefan Zweig (18811942)

Whenever any form of government shall become destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, & to institute new government, laying it’s foundation on such principles & organising it’s powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety & happiness.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)
