Memorials
Fort Willard in the defenses of Washington, D. C. was named for the fallen colonel.
A small monument—dedicated in 1888—stands on the Gettysburg battlefield near where Willard fell,. His body was recovered and transported back to his family. He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, New York. Camp #154 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in Albany, New York is named for Willard.
