Natural Hazards
Tamil Nadu has a coastline of about 910 kilometres (600 mi) which is the country’s third longest coastline. Tamil Nadu's coastline bore the brunt of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami when it hit India, which caused 7,793 direct deaths in the state. Tamil Nadu falls mostly in a region of low seismic hazard with the exception of the western border areas that lie in a low to moderate hazard zone. Parts of this region have experienced seismic activity in the M5.0 range.

Famous quotes containing the word natural:
“The problem of the novelist who wishes to write about a mans encounter with God is how he shall make the experiencewhich is both natural and supernaturalunderstandable, and credible, to his reader. In any age this would be a problem, but in our own, it is a well- nigh insurmountable one. Todays audience is one in which religious feeling has become, if not atrophied, at least vaporous and sentimental.”
—Flannery OConnor (19251964)
