Geography of Italy - Rivers and Seas

Rivers and Seas

Most of Italy's rivers drain either into the Adriatic Sea (like Po, Piave, Adige, Brenta, Tagliamento, Reno) or into the Thyrrhenian (like Arno, Tiber and Volturno), though the waters from some border municipalities (Livigno in Lombardy, Innichen and Sexten in Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol) drain into the Black Sea through the basin of the Drava, a tributary of the Danube, and the waters from the Lago di Lei in Lombardy drain into the North Sea through the basin of the Rhine.

Famous quotes containing the words rivers and/or seas:

    As for evildoers, for them awaits a painful chastisement;
    but for those who believe, and do deeds
    of righteousness, they shall be admitted
    to gardens underneath which rivers flow,
    therein dwelling forever,
    by the leave of their Lord, their greeting
    therein: “Peace!”
    Qur’An. Abraham 14:28 (ed. Arthur J. Arberry, 1955)

    I must down to the seas again for the call of the running tide Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied.
    John Masefield (1874–1967)
