Ganglion Cell

A ganglion cell is a cell found in a ganglion. The term is also sometimes used to refer specifically to:

  • a retinal ganglion cell (RGC) found in the ganglion cell layer of the retina;
  • cells that reside in the adrenal medulla, where they are involved in the sympathetic nervous system's release of epinephrine and norepinephrine into the blood stream; and
  • cells of the sympathetic ganglia, parasympathetic ganglia, and spiral ganglia.

Famous quotes containing the word cell:

    In America all too few blows are struck into flesh. We kill the spirit here, we are experts at that. We use psychic bullets and kill each other cell by cell.
    Norman Mailer (b. 1923)
