Purchase of Direct2Drive
In 2011 Gamefly announced that they had acquired Direct2Drive, a digital distribution service previously owned by IGN. Later Direct2Drive merged with Gamefly, owners of both Gamefly and D2D accounts would have their accounts merged and anyone who didn't have a Gamefly account would have one made automatically. Later Gamefly announced the Gamefly Client for downloading and playing PC and Mac games while also working for renting games without using the Gamefly website, this was in beta until November 8th, 2012 when they had announced they were out of beta. To celebrate the Client's coming out of beta Gamefly offered Bioshock for free, although you had to use credit card information to acquire the game.
