Future of Freedom Foundation - Political Activity

Political Activity

The Foundation has been involved in some political activity. The President, Jacob Hornberger, has introduced it to CPAC before, James Bovard has contributed on Antiwar.com, senior fellow Sheldon Richman wrote on Reason Magazine that U.S. must pull out of Afghanistan Now!, Sheldon Richman also wrote on The New American and Reason Magazine regarding the controversy between Catholics and Obama over a provision of the healthcare reform law, Sheldon Richman commenting in Reason Magazine that its never too late for Obama to stop a war in the Middle East, asserting that Ben Bernanke is taking America down a road to serfdom, the Foundation was part of the Day of Action to Stop War on Iran on February 4, 2012 and a CATO lecture about the history of libertarian ideas was filmed at one of the Foundation's seminars on Austrian economics.

In a Huffington Post article about the publishment of hateful speech directed toward Muslims, Sheldon Richman was quoted. This part of the article read as follows: "I asked Jacob Hornberger, President of the libertarian Future of Freedom Foundation, who was part of a recent "Civil Liberties College Tour," addressing civil liberties and terrorism, whether bigoted speech like Keller's, in an advertisement, is protected under the First Amendment. He emailed me that it's protected, saying:

"The man has the fundamental, God given right to say all of these things and to run his concealed carry course any way he wants, no matter how offensive his speech or conduct is to others."

Because the speech is contained in an advertisement, he wrote that "the entity he's paying, as the owner of the publication or station, has the right not to publish the advertisement.""

Even so, according to OpenSecrets, the Foundation has not contributed one penny to the national government or any politician in it.

Famous quotes containing the words political and/or activity:

Of all my prosecutors ... not one is my peer, but each and all are my political sovereigns; and had your honor submitted my case to the jury, as was clearly your duty, then I should have had just cause of protest, for not one of those men was my peer; but, native or foreign born, white or black, rich or poor, educated or ignorant, sober or drunk, each and every man of them was my political superior; hence, in no sense, my peer.
    Susan B. Anthony (1820–1906)

Genghis Khan, in his usual jodhpurs accessorized with whip, straddled a canvas chair and gloated upon the fairyland he had built. Journalists, photographers, secretaries, sycophants, script girls, and set dressers milled and stirred around him, activity ... irresistibly reminiscent of the movement of maggots upon rotting meat.
    Angela Carter (1940–1992)
