Third Generation Behavior Therapy
Often FAP is lumped with behavioral activation, dialectical behavior therapy, integrative behavioral couples therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. Together these therapies are often referred to as third generation behavior therapy because they focus less on cognitive phenomena and more on functional analysis commonly found in applied behavior analysis and a behavioral theory of language and cognition.

Famous quotes containing the words generation, behavior and/or therapy:
“I call it our collective inheritance of isolation. We inherit isolation in the bones of our lives. It is passed on to us as sure as the shape of our noses and the length of our legs. When we are young, we are taught to keep to ourselves for reasons we may not yet understand. As we grow up we become the men who never cry and the women who never complain. We become another generation of people expected not to bother others with our problems.”
—Paula C. Lowe (20th century)
“Reading about ethics is about as likely to improve ones behavior as reading about sports is to make one into an athlete.”
—Mason Cooley (b. 1927)
“Show business is the best possible therapy for remorse.”
—Anita Loos (18881981)
