Fruit Cup

A fruit cup, also known as a summer cup, is traditionally an English speciality drink designed to be made into a long drink with addition of a soft drink such as lemonade or ginger ale. Most commonly gin based although there are some varieties based on other spirits such as vodka. The base gin is flavoured with various herbs, spices, fruit, and botanicals as well as its strength reduced. Fruit cups are typically marketed for the summer months although many are now available all year round. Fruit cup producers suggest adding fruit as a garnish to the drink and to improve the flavour; recommendations include: apple, orange, strawberry, lemon, lime, cucumber, mint, and borage leaves.

Famous quotes containing the words fruit and/or cup:

Some say that happiness is not good for mortals, & they ought to be answered that sorrow is not fit for immortals & is utterly useless to any one; a blight never does good to a tree, & if a blight kill not a tree but it still bear fruit, let none say that the fruit was in consequence of the blight.
    William Blake (1757–1827)

The cup of Morgan Fay is shattered.
    Life is a bitter sage,
    And we are weary infants
    In a palsied age.
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)
