Episode Status

Reruns of the program were broadcast by Canadian cable channel History Television in the late 1990s. At least a few of the episodes from the 1950s and 1960s were not saved. In his second book about the program, Alex Barris tells an anecdote about what guest panelist Bennett Cerf said to challenger Jesse Owens about Adolf Hitler during a 1958 episode; this is one of the episodes that does not survive.

Famous quotes containing the words episode and/or status:

Youth is the period in which a man can be hopeless. The end of every episode is the end of the world. But the power of hoping through everything, the knowledge that the soul survives its adventures, that great inspiration comes to the middle-aged.
    Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874–1936)

Anthropologists have found that around the world whatever is considered “men’s work” is almost universally given higher status than “women’s work.” If in one culture it is men who build houses and women who make baskets, then that culture will see house-building as more important. In another culture, perhaps right next door, the reverse may be true, and basket- weaving will have higher social status than house-building.
