Front (military Formation)

Front (military Formation)

A front (Russian: фронт, front) was a major military formation. Appearing to originate with the Russian Empire, it has been used by the Polish Army, the Red Army and Soviet Army, and by Turkey.

It was roughly equivalent to an army group in the militaries of most other countries, varying in size but in general containing three to five armies. It should not to be confused with the more general usage of military front, describing a geographic area in wartime.

Famous quotes containing the word front:

I got it: Man Without Head Kills Rich Jeweler. What an eight- column spread that’d be on the front page. Why that’s the greatest story since Lindbergh flew to Paris. Oh boy, if only it was true.
