Friends Arena - History

History

Swedbank acquired the naming rights to the new stadium in a 153 million SEK deal that will last until 2023, initially known as Swedbank Arena. However, on 28 March 2012, Swedbank announced that it would rename the facility Friends Arena, for a non-profit organization of the same name against school bullying that Swedbank supports.

It was calculated to cost around 1.9 billion SEK (170 million euro) to complete. The estimated cost before construction had begun was 2.3 billion SEK. It replaced RĂ¥sunda Stadium, Sweden's former national arena for football. RĂ¥sunda will be torn down, and blocks of 700 flats and office buildings will be erected on the site.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

I cannot be much pleased without an appearance of truth; at least of possibility—I wish the history to be natural though the sentiments are refined; and the characters to be probable, though their behaviour is excelling.
    Frances Burney (1752–1840)

Look through the whole history of countries professing the Romish religion, and you will uniformly find the leaven of this besetting and accursed principle of action—that the end will sanction any means.
    Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772–1834)

When the landscape buckles and jerks around, when a dust column of debris rises from the collapse of a block of buildings on bodies that could have been your own, when the staves of history fall awry and the barrel of time bursts apart, some turn to prayer, some to poetry: words in the memory, a stained book carried close to the body, the notebook scribbled by hand—a center of gravity.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
