Frieda Harris - Harris Visits Crowley

Harris Visits Crowley

The author William Holt in his autobiography describes how he accompanied Harris to Crowley's lodgings at 93 Jermyn Street, Piccadilly. While Harris drew some charcoal sketches, there was a discussion on The Book of Thoth that Crowley was writing. After a lull in the conversation, Crowley disappeared, and returned with his drawing entitled Lam, to the obvious discomfort of Holt. Crowley claimed that Lam was “his guru”.

Famous quotes containing the words harris, visits and/or crowley:

You overfed the boy, Ma’am. You raised an artificial spirit in the lad, unbecoming to his station on life. This would never have happened if you kept him on gruel.
    —Vernon Harris (c. 1910)

At the milliners, the ladies we met were so much dressed, that I should rather have imagined they were making visits than purchases. But what diverted me most was, that we were more frequently served by men than by women; and such men! so finical, so affected! they seemed to understand every part of a woman’s dress better than we do ourselves; and they recommended caps and ribbons with an air of so much importance, that I wished to ask them how long they had left off wearing them.
    Frances Burney (1752–1840)

The people who have really made history are the martyrs.
    —Aleister Crowley (1875–1947)
