French Frigate Courbet (F 712) - Notable Missions

Notable Missions

The Courbet took part in Opération Baliste. On 3 October 2006, an Israeli fighter penetrated her 2-nautical-mile (4 km) defence perimeter without responding radio calls, triggering a diplomatic incident. Israel apologised after official protests from the French government . Throughout September the ship was involved in anti-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia, helping to recapture a yacht taken by pirates on September 2.

In December 2009 the Coubet escorted the Marine national ship Jeanne d'Arc (R97) on her final voyage. This was last trip of the famous Helicopter carrier that served as a floating embassy and symbol of the Franch navy for 46 years. The Jeanne dArc's last voyage in company with the Coubet included visits to Africa, South America including Rio to Buenos Aires, the French Antilles, the United States of America including New York City, and Canada. The voyage was completed sometime in May 2010.

Famous quotes containing the words notable and/or missions:

In one notable instance, where the United States Army and a hundred years of persuasion failed, a highway has succeeded. The Seminole Indians surrendered to the Tamiami Trail. From the Everglades the remnants of this race emerged, soon after the trail was built, to set up their palm-thatched villages along the road and to hoist tribal flags as a lure to passing motorists.
—For the State of Florida, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one’s own safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind.... Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn’t, but if he was sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn’t have to; but if he didn’t want to he was sane and had to.
    Joseph Heller (b. 1923)
