Frederick Lothrop Ames

Frederick Lothrop Ames, Jr. (1876–1921) was the great-grandson of Oliver Ames, who established the Ames Shovel Company. He was the second son of Frederick Lothrop Ames and Rebecca Caroline (Blair) Ames. The Ames were a wealthy family in Massachusetts and were fairly prominent in 19th century New England society. Frederick was a graduate of Harvard and had interests in the family shovel business as well as railroads, banking, and the breeding of Guernsey cows. He built a 50-room mansion in 1905 on his estate in North Easton, Massachusetts that would later become the campus of Stonehill College.
