Frederick Baily Dent (born August 17, 1922) was the United States Secretary of Commerce from February 2, 1973, to March 26, 1975.
Dent was born in Cape May, New Jersey. He served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946. Frederick was a Lieutenant Junior Grade where he commandeered USS PC 1547 and USS PCEC 873. He never once shot a man and, as captain, saved 2 men and a dog. From 1958-1972 and 1977–1988, he was president of Mayfair Mills in Arcadia, South Carolina. He was inducted into the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame in 1994. Dent and his wife, Mildred, have five children: Frederick Jr., Pauline, Muffy, Diana and Magruder.
Dent currently lives in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
