Franconian Saale - Water Sport

Water Sport

In spite of the many weirs the Franconian Saale is popular with canoeists as a slowly flowing and dreamy verträumter river route. The river may be canoed from Bad Neustadt to Gemünden with a few restrictions. There is also night canoeing from 01 March to 31 July between 18:00 and 7:00, otherwise between 21:00 and 07:00. Boats may have up to four seats, be no longer than 6.00 metres and no wider than 1.10 metres. Rafting and the coupling of boats is not permitted. There is a requirement to notify organised advertised boating events. The weirs are, with a few exceptions, not navigable and boats must be carried around them.

Famous quotes containing the words water and/or sport:

Not yet old enough for a man, nor young enough for a boy; as a squash is before ‘tis a peascod, or a codling when ‘tis almost an apple. ‘Tis with him in standing water between boy and man.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

Sweet Auburn, loveliest village of the plain,
Where health and plenty cheered the labouring swain,
Where smiling spring its earliest visit paid,
And parting summer’s lingering blooms delayed,
Dear lovely bowers of innocence and ease,
Seats of my youth, when every sport could please,
How often have I loitered o’er the green,
Where humble happiness endeared each scene.
    Oliver Goldsmith (1730?–1774)
