Early Life
Sebastian Francisco de Miranda was born in Caracas, Venezuela. His father, Sebastian de Miranda Ravelo, was a wealthy merchant from the Canary Islands, and his mother, Francisca Antonia RodrÃguez de Espinoza, was a wealthy Venezuelan.
Growing up, Miranda enjoyed a wealthy upbringing, attending the finest private schools, while being slightly discriminated against for his Canarian roots. Miranda was not necessarily a member of high society growing up, as his heritage was continually put into question by the Criollo aristocracy.

“There is a place where we are always alone with our own mortality, where we must simply have something greater than ourselves to hold ontoGod or history or politics or literature or a belief in the healing power of love, or even righteous anger....
