Francis Charteris (rake) - Early Life

Early Life

Charteris was born into a well-connected family and baptised in Edinburgh. Even before his conviction, he was notorious and despised by many in London as an archetypal rake. Despite his military dismissals, he amassed a considerable fortune.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

I got a little secretarial job after college, but I thought of it as a prelude. Education, work, whatever you did before marriage, was only a prelude to your real life, which was marriage.
    Bonnie Carr (c. early 1930s)

    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
