Forty Fort

Forty Fort was a stronghold built by settlers from Connecticut on the Susquehanna River in Westmoreland County, Connecticut, now Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

It was a place of refuge for displaced settlers during the Battle of Wyoming in 1778.

Famous quotes containing the words forty and/or fort:

Young fellows are tempted by girls, men who are thirty years old are tempted by gold, when they are forty years old they are tempted by honor and glory, and those who are sixty years old say to themselves, “What a pious man I have become.”
    Martin Luther (1483–1546)

    I never drink—wine.
    —Garrett Fort (1900–1945)
