Fire
In 2002 a large portion of Fort Hunter Liggett was scorched by an accidental fire resulting from an improperly detonated hand grenade. No injuries were reported but the fire did consume several outbuildings. As a result, soldiers participating in live fire exercises are no longer allowed to detonate hand grenades without special permission from the Fort Hunter Liggett Fire Department.
