Fort Howard Veterans Hospital - Public Transportation

Public Transportation

During most of Ft. Howard's days of operation, it was served by public transportation, including streetcars and buses on various lines (see History of MTA Maryland).

In 1993, MTA eliminated all bus service to Ft. Howard, and arranged for a private contractor to provide service to the facility. MTA restored its own service to Ft. Howard in 1997, but eliminated it again in 1998.

The hospital grounds are guarded and still very well active. Even though most of the buildings including the main hospital are defunct, there is still an active medical facility on the property. Park police patrol the grounds daily.

Famous quotes containing the word public:

The man who would change the name of Arkansas is the original, iron-jawed, brass-mouthed, copper-bellied corpse-maker from the wilds of the Ozarks! He is the man they call Sudden Death and General Desolation! Sired by a hurricane, dam’d by an earthquake, half-brother to the cholera, nearly related to the smallpox on his mother’s side!
—Administration in the State of Arka, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
