Fly Gibraltar - History

History

Press releases about The proposed airline were issued in August 2006, describing it as wholly owned by OEM (International) Ltd, a construction company which later had their building contracts cancelled by the Government of Gibraltar. It initially claimed it would conduct its first year of operations under the air operator certificate of Astraeus. After extended delays in starting operation, in June 2007 it was announced it would not be starting operations The reason given was that it was unable to deposit the £10m insurance bond with the Civil Aviation Authority required to commence business.

There is no evidence that the company ever actually contacted either Astraeus or the CAA. Within weeks of the high profile presentation, airline industry sources in the UK were saying it was pie in the sky.

The Government of Gibraltar said it would offer the promised routes to other airlines.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

    —E.L. (Edgar Lawrence)

A great proportion of the inhabitants of the Cape are always thus abroad about their teaming on some ocean highway or other, and the history of one of their ordinary trips would cast the Argonautic expedition into the shade.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Universal history is the history of a few metaphors.
    Jorge Luis Borges (1899–1986)
