Route Description
State Road 997 begins at the south end of Florida City at US 1, and goes north through in the Florida City and Homestead business districts, intersecting with State Road 9336 in Florida City, which provides access to the main entrance to Everglades National Park. North of Homestead, the road passes through some suburban neighborhoods and farmland (primarily plant nurseries) for the next few miles. North of SR 94, the road enters Florida woodland, and north of US 41 (Tamiami Trail), it stays on the edge of the everglades for the rest of the route until reaching its northern terminus of US 27.

Famous quotes containing the words route and/or description:
“A route differs from a road not only because it is solely intended for vehicles, but also because it is merely a line that connects one point with another. A route has no meaning in itself; its meaning derives entirely from the two points that it connects. A road is a tribute to space. Every stretch of road has meaning in itself and invites us to stop. A route is the triumphant devaluation of space, which thanks to it has been reduced to a mere obstacle to human movement and a waste of time.”
—Milan Kundera (b. 1929)
“Do not require a description of the countries towards which you sail. The description does not describe them to you, and to- morrow you arrive there, and know them by inhabiting them.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
