Florida State Road 85 - Future

Future

Plans are to expand the section of highway between Auburn and the Alabama state line to four lanes once Alabama completes their State Route 55 expansion to four lanes from south of Andalusia, Alabama to Florala, Alabama. This will provide both a better hurricane evacuation route from Okaloosa County as well as a more direct route to Destin, Florida and Fort Walton Beach, Florida from Interstate 65.

The entrance to the Northwest Florida Regional Airport is currently being reconstructed at SR 123, a cut-off named the Roger Clary Parkway that by-passes Valparaiso and Niceville, along with an additional flyover, planned to open in October 2012, providing easier access for those going to and from I-10/Crestview and Fort Walton Beach.

The intersection with 77th Special Forces Way/McWhorter Avenue, serving the 7th Special Forces cantonment and Duke Field is in the planning phases of upgrading it to a freeway grade interchange. By July 2012, road realignments and new abutment construction were underway.

State Road 85 has a few resurfacing projects planned, with the section from Bill Lundy Road to the Walton County line, planned for 2012, from US 98 To Richbourg Avenue, also planned for 2012, and from north of College Boulevard to north of SR 123, planned for 2014.

Famous quotes containing the word future:

Peace does not appear so distant as it did. I hope it will come soon, and come to stay; and so come as to be worth the keeping in all future time. It will then have been proved that, among free men, there can be no successful appeal from the ballot to the bullet; and that they who take such appeal are sure to lose their case, and pay the cost.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)

If ever the search for a tranquil belief should end,
The future might stop emerging out of the past,
Out of what is full of us; yet the search
And the future emerging out of us seem to be one.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

The final upshot of thinking is the exercise of volition, and of this thought no longer forms a part; but belief is only a stadium of mental action, an effect upon our nature due to thought, which will influence future thinking.
    Charles Sanders Peirce (1839–1914)
