Solar Power Plants
FPL is building the Martin Next Generation Solar Energy Center — a $476 million, 75 MW(peak) parabolic trough array on 500 acres (200 ha) of the Martin County, Florida plant. The solar collectors will feed heat to the existing steam plant, reducing the need for gas. The energy from the solar array will generate power at a rate of 155,000 MW·h per year (18 MW).
FPL is building two solar photovoltaic power generation systems at Kennedy Space Center.
Now operational is the 25MW DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center in DeSoto County, Florida. The facility uses more than 90,000 photovoltaic panels to supply power to more than 3,000 homes.

Famous quotes containing the words solar, power and/or plants:
“Senta: These boats, sir, what are they for?
Hamar: They are solar boats for Pharaoh to use after his death. Theyre the means by which Pharaoh will journey across the skies with the sun, with the god Horus. Each day they will sail from east to west, and each night Pharaoh will return to the east by the river which runs underneath the earth.”

“We have been God-like in our planned breeding of our domesticated plants and animals, but we have been rabbit-like in our unplanned breeding of ourselves.”
