The Florence Civic Center is the hub for entertainment, exhibitions and civic events for the Florence, South Carolina and the Pee Dee region. Seven-time recipient of the Prime Site Award from Facilities & Event Magazine, the Center has the advantage of a prime location on a spacious, manicured complex at the intersection of Interstate 95 and Interstate 20, just a few miles from the regional airport. The facility is close to dozens of national chain hotels, several of which are immediately adjacent and within walking distance. It is located just across the street from Florenceās premier shopping plaza and close to a variety of award winning restaurants.
Owned by Florence City-County, the Florence Civic Center is managed by SMG (property management) Worldwide Entertainment and Conference Venue Management. The Florence Civic Center, sometimes referred to as Florence City-County Civic Center, specializes in an array of rental and entertainment services. The Center boasts 50,000 square feet of multipurpose space to host rentals of all shapes and sizes including banquets, receptions, luncheons, meetings, seminars, galas, conferences, trade shows, etc. The venue also supplies the region with year-round entertainment and attractions. Examples include: concerts, circus, family shows, sporting events, comedy acts, motivational speakers, ice skating, carnivals, festivals, trade shows, monster trucks, etc.
The Florence Civic Center is a 10,000-seat multipurpose arena in Florence, South Carolina. It hosted the infamous eighth WWF In Your House pay-per-view in 1996, during which a storm knocked out the power and thus the broadcast signal during the event. The card was retelecast two nights later from North Charleston, South Carolina at the North Charleston Coliseum. The building was also the home of the fledgling South Carolina Fire Ants of Major League Roller Hockey in 1998. Though they did not make the playoffs, the Fire Ants did finish second in the league in attendance trailing only the mighty Anaheim Bullfrogs. The building was also once home to two Ice hockey teams, The Pee Dee/Florence Pride (1997-2005) and the Pee Dee Cyclones (2005-2007). The Florence Civic Center was also home to the Florence Phantoms AIFA indoor football team (2007-2009) and to the Florence Symphony Orchestra.
Famous quotes containing the words civic center, civic and/or center:
“But look what we have built ... low-income projects that become worse centers of delinquency, vandalism and general social hopelessness than the slums they were supposed to replace.... Cultural centers that are unable to support a good bookstore. Civic centers that are avoided by everyone but bums.... Promenades that go from no place to nowhere and have no promenaders. Expressways that eviscerate great cities. This is not the rebuilding of cities. This is the sacking of cities.”
—Jane Jacobs (b. 1916)
“It is thus that the few rare lucid well-disposed people who have had to struggle on the earth find themselves at certain hours of the day or night in the depth of certain authentic and waking nightmare states, surrounded by the formidable suction, the formidable tentacular oppression of a kind of civic magic which will soon be seen appearing openly in social behavior.”
—Antonin Artaud (18961948)
“Death is someone you see very clearly with eyes in the center of your heart: eyes that see not by reacting to light, but by reacting to a kind of a chill from within the marrow of your own life.”
—Thomas Merton (19151968)
